From the Yerri Valley, specifically from the village of Abárzuza emerges a narrow winding road that takes the throat open by the river Iranzu to get closer to a small valley sandwiched between mountains. This was the ideal location chosen to build the monastery of Iranzu.

Apparently, there was a primitive Benedictine monastery in this area, but it was in 1176 when the Cistercian monks started the construction of the main units that form the present monastery. Gradually, the community extended their domains, to undergo a period of crisis affected by clashes between various Navarre factions and the subsequent loss of independence of Navarre. After in the eighteenth century Iranzu was no stranger to the confiscation of 1835. After more than a century of neglect, in 1942 reconstruction work began, and three years later (1945) a religious community of teatinos was established in place and nowadays they continue to run the monastery.

From the architectural point of view, the monastery complex is consistent with models of Cistercian art. The abbey church appears sober, devoid of decoration and with the characteristic flat apse. The cloister attached to the temple is a small wonder with its beautiful arcades, from the most sober (s. XII) to the more ornate decorated (s. XIV.) The remaining monastic units preserved (chapter house, refectory and kitchen) maintain the image of the serene beauty of the monuments.

In addition, to enjoy a complete tour, near the monastery a picnic is enabled area with tables and barcacues.
